Disney-Pixar's *Toy Story 5*, featuring the voices of Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, is expected to arrive on digital streaming platforms in mid-to-late August.

This projection follows the film's impressive theatrical debut, which saw it secure the largest opening weekend of 2026 with $160 million in domestic ticket sales and a global total of $310.1 million.

The film, directed by Andrew Stanton, introduces new challenges for the beloved toys as digital devices, specifically the Lilypad (voiced by Greta Lee), captivate 8-year-old Bonnie (Scarlett Spears), causing her traditional toys to be overlooked.

This narrative shift marks the franchise's return to theaters after *Toy Story 4* in 2019.

Despite its strong box office performance, which could see *Toy Story 5* join its predecessors *Toy Story 3* and *Toy Story 4* in surpassing $1 billion worldwide, Disney is unlikely to alter its established digital release strategy.

The studio typically implements a two-month window between a film's theatrical premiere and its availability on premium video on demand (PVOD).

This consistent approach was observed with 2025 releases such as *Lilo & Stitch* and *Zootopia 2*, both of which adhered to the two-month theatrical-to-PVOD schedule.

*Lilo & Stitch*, released on May 23, 2025, debuted on PVOD on July 22, 2025.

Similarly, *Zootopia 2*, which opened on November 26, 2025, became available on digital streaming on January 27, 2026.

While Disney-Pixar films occasionally see a slightly longer wait, as was the case with *Inside Out 2* in 2024, which had a two-month and one-week gap, the general trend points to an August release for *Toy Story 5*.

If it follows the pattern of *Inside Out 2*, viewers could anticipate an August 25 release.

However, if it aligns with the two-month window seen with 2025's *Elio*, an August 18 debut is possible, as new digital releases typically occur on Tuesdays.

PVOD releases from Disney generally range from $24.99 to $29.99 for purchase or $19.99 to $24.99 for a 48-hour rental.

These films are typically accessible across various digital platforms, including Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video, and YouTube Movies & TV.
