The Broadway premiere of 'School Girls; Or The African Mean Girls Play' will feature Denée Benton, Jasmine Amy Rogers, and Patina Miller in leading roles.

This marks a significant step for the play, which first debuted Off-Broadway in November 2017.

Written by Jocelyn Bioh, the production will be directed by Tony nominee Whitney White.

The play is set to open at the Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J.

Friedman Theatre, with performances commencing on September 8 and an official opening night slated for September 28.

The story of 'School Girls' centers on a group of students at the Aburi Girls Boarding School in Ghana.

Their lives are disrupted by a pageant recruiter, played by Patina Miller, who encourages them to compete in the Miss Ghana 1986 pageant.

The friend group, led by Paulina (Denée Benton), becomes engrossed in preparations.

However, the arrival of a new transfer student from America, portrayed by Jasmine Amy Rogers, introduces a new dynamic that threatens Paulina's aspirations for the crown.

Denée Benton returns to Broadway following her roles in 'Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812' and the 2022 revival of 'Into the Woods'.

Patina Miller, a Tony Award winner for 'Pippin', also has a notable Broadway history.

Both actresses have also appeared on screen, with Benton in 'The Gilded Age' and Miller in 'Madam Secretary'.

Jasmine Amy Rogers, a Tony nominee for 'Boop!

The Musical', is currently performing Off-Broadway in 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee'.

The production team includes Tony Award winner Qween Jean as costume designer, Teresa L.

Williams as scenic designer, Stacey Derosier as lighting designer, Cody Spencer as sound designer, and Nikiya Mathis as wig, hair, and makeup designer.

Bioh and White previously collaborated on the 2023 world premiere of 'JaJa’s African Hair Braiding' at the Manhattan Theatre Club.

The play is produced in association with Chase This Productions and Susan Kelechi Watson.
