Nick Reiner's Trust Fund Access for Legal Fees Moves Forward with Trustee's Support
Nick Reiner, who is facing charges for the alleged murder of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer/producer Michele Reiner, is moving closer to potentially securing funds for his legal defense.
The trustee overseeing his trust fund has reportedly agreed to file a petition with the court to allow him access to the money.
This development is significant as it could enable Reiner to re-hire prominent defense attorney Alan Jackson.
Reiner was arrested in December 2025 on suspicion of murdering his parents, who were found stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home.
He has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and has pleaded not guilty.
Ahead of his trial, Reiner petitioned a California court for access to a trust fund established in his name by his parents, with the intention of using the funds to retain Jackson.
According to reports from TMZ, Jodi Montgomery, the trustee responsible for the fund, will now submit the request to the court.
While Montgomery is facilitating the petition, the ultimate decision on whether Reiner can access the funds rests with a judge.
Reiner claims he was supposed to receive the money when he turned 30 in 2023.
Previously, there was speculation that Reiner's siblings, Jake and Romy Reiner, were preventing him from accessing the trust.
However, industry insider Rob Shuter reported that the trustee, Montgomery, was the one who had taken a "much harder line" on the issue.
A legal source told Shuter that "Jake and Romy seem willing to see trust funds used for legal fees," suggesting that the siblings are not opposing their brother's request for legal funding.
Alan Jackson has indicated his willingness to return as Nick Reiner's attorney if funding can be secured.
A separate source noted that Reiner "wants access to the money so he can hire the lawyer of his choice," and that his siblings "don’t appear to be standing in the way" of this objective.
