Girl Meets World Producer Details Creator's "Horrible" Treatment of Young Stars
A producer for the Disney Channel series *Girl Meets World* has shed light on alleged difficult behavior by the show's creator, Michael Jacobs, during the production.
This revelation comes from *Doc Meets World*, a new documentary featuring *Boy Meets World* cast members Danielle Fishel, Will Friedle, and Rider Strong, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Frank Pace, a producer on *Girl Meets World*, recounted a "never to be forgotten table read" where Jacobs was allegedly "horrible" to the young cast.
Pace claimed that Jacobs "reamed all the young cast" because he believed they "didn't uphold the tradition of 'Boy Meets World'." This alleged incident reportedly led to both Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter crying.
Danielle Fishel, who played Topanga Lawrence in both *Boy Meets World* and *Girl Meets World*, initially stated she had blocked out the memory but was reminded by Pace of the alleged events.
Fishel also shared her early attempts to influence the show's direction, advocating for storylines that prioritized female friendships over romantic relationships for the 12-year-old lead character.
She expressed her desire for the show to offer a different lesson than what she experienced growing up, where her own focus on relationships "didn't do anything for me."
Despite Jacobs reportedly assuring Fishel that the central love story would be the friendship between Carpenter and Blanchard's characters, the pilot episode depicted the lead character stumbling into a boy's lap.
Fishel eventually became more vocal in confronting Jacobs about her concerns, a stance she noted "did not go over well."
Rider Strong, who directed 18 episodes of *Girl Meets World*, acknowledged his gratitude to Jacobs but also stated, "I needed to cut him out of my life, let him know that I don't condone his behavior." These accounts offer a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes dynamics of the popular Disney Channel spin-off, providing context for the experiences of its young stars and creative team.
The documentary *Doc Meets World* follows Fishel, Friedle, and Strong as they reflect on their time growing up on a sitcom, a journey that also inspired their 2022 podcast, *Pod Meets World*.
